Bali family villas: the perfect solution for your school summer holidays

School holidays are coming: Book your Bali family villa now!

It’s that time of year already! Long summer days are just a short hop away and every parent’s thoughts turn to how to create a magical holiday for their kids without collapsing from exhaustion in the process. You ask, and we provide.

Bali is an epic destination for children of all ages and Bali Comfy Villas has a great selection of family accommodation for you to choose from. Bali family villas really are our thing! What’s more, it’s in the most fun locations packed with options to keep your kids happy. Lie back by your private pool, sip a cocktail, and watch your kids enjoy the holiday of their lifetime – and yours.

But first of all, where should you base yourself? It’s important to do the research and find the right locations, places loaded with fun possibilities but also that feel safe and peaceful, with easy access to essential amenities. We’ve given you a head start with the lowdown on the most family-friendly locations and the best villas to meet your family’s needs.

Seminyak: fun and buzz for all ages

We all know Seminyak is a great place to stay if you love the good things in life – great restaurants, bars, shopping, beaches – but you might not know that it’s also a great choice for families.  The key draw for families is the beautiful beaches. Perfect for kids to play all day long, Seminyak beaches also offer a wide range of places to eat and drink so you’re never far away from everything you need. For older kids, there’s a whole host of beach activities to choose from. Maybe they’d like to try horse riding, or take some surf lessons.

We’ve found that there’s plenty in  Seminyak to keep kids engaged just strolling around the streets, exploring the colourful market shops and sarong vendors, and enjoying frequent ice cream stops. And as this is a central area, it’s very easy to just grab a taxi when they get too tired to walk any further.

If you’re looking for specific activities, we’ve got that covered too. You’ve probably heard all about Kudeta, one of the best known beach clubs in Seminyak. Did you know that every week they host Family Sundays? Yes, Sundays see this dancing hot spot turn into kids’ activity heaven. From 10am till 2pm there’s activities like face painting or sushi making to get your little ones involved. Check out their website to see what’s on while you’re here. Booking is essential, this gets very popular!

For the best kids’ playground in Bali, check out Mookiland, which opened in 2023 in Kerobokan. This is an indoor and outdoor park with giant inflatables, ziplines, obstacle courses, trampolines, and, for the adults, a restaurant that looks out over the rice fields.

For something a bit different, Frankenstein’s Laboratory is a fun option. This Halloween themed bar and restaurant runs family sessions. Eat dinner, meet a zombie, do some scary face painting, and watch a spooky cabaret featuring the Dancing Dead and the Zombie Crew performers. For kids under 13, there’s an early evening session, with later sessions for older children and adults.

Chilled out Canggu is a haven for families

Laidback Canggu is a great place to base yourself if you’re holidaying as a family. Relaxed and family friendly, there is plenty here to keep kids of all ages fully occupied.

The biggest draw of all here is the wonderful Finns Recreation Club. There’s everything here for all the family. For the kids there’s Splash Water Park: this major waterpark has four world class waterslides – the Giant Racer, Speed Racer, Super Bowl and the Big Red. It also has Water Wonderland for the smaller children with cannons, mini slides, a climbing fort and big water bucket, and  Crazy Creek gentle water course ride.

And that’s not all: there’s also Bounce Trampoline Centre, Strike Ten Pin Bowling and Cubby House Kids Club. There’s even Mother Hucker’s indoor axe throwing, if you have a little family tension to work out. There’s also JSA Sports Academy too – sign up your more energetic youngsters for a drop in session.

If you want to drop them off at the Kids Club or the Sports Academy where they’ll be well looked after, there is also plenty for adults, with a full fitness centre, Body Temple Spa and multiple restaurants. It’s a full day out for the whole family. Quick tip: if you book a stay at our Marton 3bed villa, it comes with 2 free Finns Platinum cards!

Parklife is another option for a day out with little ones. This gorgeous green park is one huge, safe playground for smaller children to explore and play at will. There’s a jungle gym, bouncy castle, mini beach and an outdoor cinema. You can drop your kids off here for a full day or half day and know they’ll be very well looked after with a packed schedule of activities, or you can stay with them and relax in the restaurant. Look out for special events too!

For something more casual, Made’s Warung in Berawa is one of our favourite places to eat – and it also has a wonderful kids’ playground, both outdoor and indoor. They also offer day care, and a schedule of workshops and activities – check their Facebook page for details and be sure to book ahead!

Milk & Madu is another of our top brunch places, and it is also kid-friendly. They offer toys and coloring paper for children and have a cool mini-play area.

And not to forget Play by COMO where there’s a wide range of cultural activities on offer for children. They can try their hand at Balinese dancing, Batik cloth making, gamelan lessons and a wider selection of traditional wooden toys and board games. Kids yoga is also very popular here.

For your more adventurous kids, maybe look at Bali Climbing, a walk-in bouldering gym close to the beach which offers special classes for kids aged 4-11 every day at 4pm. Or just drop in – they supply rock climbing shoes and offer professional supervision at all times. Or sign up for a surf lesson at Surf’s Up Bali, we can offer private and semi-private surf lessons.

Ubud: explore nature and tradition

I have two words for you: Monkey Forest. Whether you stay in Ubud or whether you visit as a day trip (check Bali Comfy Trips for day trips to Ubud), you should definitely look at taking the kids to visit the famous Monkey Forest. There are believed to be more than 600 long tailed macaques here, living around the ancient temples dedicated to the monkey god, Hanuman.

It’s great fun for the little ones to get up close to the wildlife but please take a few precautions as these monkeys are not shy!  Don’t dangle anything close to them as they are incredibly nimble and will have your camera up a tree before you can do anything about it. Still, kids absolutely love it here. You can’t miss it!

If you have some small budding artists in your family, you might want to visit Blanco Museum. The home, studio and garden of famed artist Antonio Blanco is more than simply a collection of his works: his Dali-esque house is a treat in itself, while the gardens are home to parrots that your children might want to take photos with. We’d also recommend the restaurant here: it has a wonderful view and a good selection of plant-based food (if a little pricey).

Or if your kids want to learn more about the Balinese culture, how about the Pondok Pelak Library and Learning Centre, where they can learn how to perform traditional dance, play the gamelan, weave an offering basket, explore the Balinese style of painting or make masks. Classes are scheduled to suit you, so contact the centre a few hours before you want to visit and they’ll look after you.

Sanur: for a quiet, relaxing break at the beach

Our wildcard suggestion here is Sanur. Never heard of it? That’s the beauty. Less touristy than Seminyak, Canggu and Ubud, Sanur is perfect for a classic family beach holiday. It has long stretches of clean, sandy beaches and warm, shallow waters, safe for small children to play and to try out paddle boards, body boards or even surf boards in gentle waves.

Along the beach there’s a path that runs all the way round for approximately 4km. It’s an easy, flat walk with plenty of pockets of shade. You can also hire bicycles here (there are some available with child seats) and explore the whole area with ease. There’s a good range of cafes by the beach, many of which offer kids menus. We recommend Neyalan as it has a children’s play area.

Family villas Bali –  you can trust us!

If you’re travelling to Bali as a family, you need to feel confident that you’re booking a villa that’s safe and suitable. We know kids: through travelling in this part of Asia with small children ourselves, we understand what it takes to make your dream holiday go smoothly. For all our villas we can provide the safety essentials such as pool fences, cots, high chairs and we can arrange babysitting or nanny services for you too.

We’ve highlighted for you our villas that best meet your family’s needs. Ones that are in central locations close to fun activities to keep everyone entertained but are still quiet, peaceful locations away from the noisier, partying areas. We’ve looked at which villas are close to fun activities for children, and which have amenities in-house that are guaranteed to keep the kids entertained. And we’ve thought of you too! Our picks all have fun and relaxing options for the adults.

Family friendly villas right in the heart of Seminyak

If you’re looking for Bali family villas in a lively, central location, look no further than our Tangram and Abakoi 6bed villas, which you can rent separately (Tangram can house a maximum of 15 people, while Abakoi can house up to 17) or together (to accommodate 32 people). This great family accommodation is just a short walk away from the white sand beach of Double Six. Here, the kids can play while you settle into your sun lounger.

The bedrooms are perfectly configured to suit your family, whatever its size. Both villas feature a family room with bunk beds: in Tangram this fits four people and in Abakoi it fits six. For older children, we also have twin bedrooms. In Abakoi, there’s a special bonus, as the twin bedroom can also be interconnected with the family room, giving you even more options.

The kids won’t get bored here: each of these villas has a 16m pool so they can splash about while you relax. If you have younger children, we also have you covered – we offer a free baby cot and high chair.

And don’t worry that you won’t get a break yourself – our villas are staffed with a butler and chef service. Feel free to put your feet up and enjoy: our super friendly staff are ready to serve you 24/7. For extra cost, we can also supply a babysitting service.

Family villas in Canggu: beachside fun and tranquillity in Pererenan

Our Sound of the Sea 6bed villa is your perfect family accommodation getaway. Tucked away on the unspoilt edges of Canggu and Perenanan, this beautiful villa is located right by the beach, ideally situated for kids.

And there’s plenty to keep the younger ones occupied at the villa itself too. There’s a large lawn area that’s great for running around under the watchful eye of the adults. There’s a big 20m pool for confident swimmers and a kids’ pool for the smaller members of the family.  And there’s even a tennis court which is shared with the three other villas in the complex.

The bedroom accommodation is also geared towards the needs of families. The master bedroom  – which has a gorgeous balcony overlooking the beach – is connected to a separate kids’ room with a toddler’s bed. The villa also offers a free baby cot and two high chairs.

We’ve not forgotten the adults! While the kids are playing, enjoy the jacuzzi (unheated water) or book yourself a massage at the floating mini yoga shala. It’s your holiday too!

While this villa is peaceful and secluded, it’s only a short hop to the bright lights of Canggu. Here you can grab gelatos at Gaya Gelato in Echo Beach before heading off to Finns Recreation Club – fun for all the family.

Opulence, space and fun in Umalas

If you’re looking for a large villa that offers a bit of luxury and glamour for your family accommodation, look no further. Naty 6bed villa has it all. No-one is going to ever be bored in this place! With all the perks of a luxury hotel combined with the privacy of a villa, everything you could want is here.

First off, the villa has a 25m semi Olympic pool, ideal for your budding mermaids and mermen to test out their skills. The pool has a shallow end too, so it’s safe for the beginner swimmers as well.  There’s also masses of room to run around – this is a 2.600 sqm property with extensive lawns.  Not only that but there’s a trampoline to bounce about on. Once you’ve worn the kids out with all this exuberance, settle them down in the home cinema room which comes complete with Netflix. Or perhaps the family can come together with a pool tournament in your pool table room.

We’re looking after you too in this family villa: how does a massage in the spa pavilion sound? An airconditioned gym? Full time staff including security guard and butler service? Maybe you’d like to order a traditional barbecue on your own barbecue pavilion? That’s not even to start on the master bedrooms – they’ve even got their own plunge pools.

Beyond the villa, Umalas is a safe, pleasant area: less touristic than Seminyak and Canggu. It’s very popular with expats and has a great range of places to eat. We recommend Bucu which has an indoor and outdoor playground, and an inflatable water castle when the sun is out.  The food’s great too! And Canggu and Seminyak are just a short drive away – we can provide you with a minibus and driver if you’d like to explore, just ask! (For info on mini bus and driver check out Bali Comfy Trips).

All the entertainment you need from a family villa in the heart of Berawa

Welcome to Imperial House! This lovely 4bed villa is located in one of our favourite spots in Bali for families, the Berawa district of Canggu. Within walking distance of the best children’s amenities, including Finns Recreation Club and a whole host of child-friendly cafes (e.g. Milk & Madu), this family villa is perfect for whatever age your kids are.

It’s also perfect whatever size your group is. You can book Imperial House by itself and that sleeps a maximum of ten guests. But if a large group wants to get together for the holiday of a lifetime, try combining it with other villas in the same complex to max out the space. The entire complex can sleep up to 34 people but you can configure these 2, 3 and 4bed villas in whichever way suits you best.

Imperial House is great for entertaining kids. It has a really large pool (17 x 5 m) at its centre. This is perfect for the kids to play in, while you lay back on your lounger and gaze out at the serene rice field views.

In the evening, opt for a cosy family experience with movie night in the family villa’s own home cinema. There is a twin room upstairs that is great for older children, with frangipani and palm tree terraces overlooking the pool. For the adults, there are two expansive double bedrooms downstairs with private Japanese gardens and one upstairs next to the twin bedroom. And if your family is still very young, we’ve got your back with a free baby cot.

Family villas Canggu: spacious and perfectly located

Another of our favourite family villas in Berawa, Canggu, is Jumah 4bed villa. Located just minutes away from the beach, the location alone is enough to make this an ideal family accommodation. But there’s so much more!

The star of the show for kids of all ages is the outdoor space. This villa has an enormous lawned area for children to run around and play hide and seek in the exotic gardens. And there’s also a 20m private pool, which has a shallow end so it’s safe for your younger children too.

Plenty of seating around the pool, including an outdoor bar and stools, means that the adults can make the most of their holiday while keeping a weather eye on the kids. The master bedrooms even open out directly onto the pool: wake up and simply hop right on in.

When you’ve all had enough of spending time outdoors, the villa has an upstairs entertainment room with a flatscreen smart TV with Netflix and home cinema, just right for movie night. Plus there’s a separate kids area to give parents some privacy.

Another family villa in Berawa is Villa Keluarga, which in the Indonesian language means “family”.  It’s well named! Keluarga 3bed villa is perfect for a smaller family group, accommodating up to 8 people. Its lawn areas and pool are fun for all the family, plus it’s close to downtown Berawa and just two minutes away from the beach.

If you have a young family, we can help you with anything you need. The villa comes with a free high chair, and we can arrange a cot, a pool fence and even a baby sitter for you should you wish. There’s a smart flat screen TV with Netflix to keep older kids quiet too.

And if you’re tired from running around after energetic toddlers, you can just ask the in-house staff to arrange for dinner in the 6pax dining room. If you want to go into Canggu, there’s also a shuttle bus service from 10am to 6pm.

Perfectly located family accommodation close to Berawa beach

Marton 3bed villa is another great family villa option. This is for families who want to be close to Berawa beach and all the fun amenities it offers. The villa is right in the heart of Berawa. It’s a short hop to a whole host of family-friendly fun places like Made’s Warung and Milk & Madu.

It’s also just a short walk to the beach – living the dream! There can’t be a family in existence who can’t find something they love at Finns Beach Club and this is right on your doorstep. To put the icing on the cake, the villa comes with 2 Platinum Finns cards giving you free access to Finns Recreation Club, including Splash waterpark and Bounce trampoline park, as well as Finns gym and spa. You also get discounts on a range of food and services, such as massages.

But it’s not just the location we love about this villa, although that’s definitely a strong point: it also has great facilities itself. There’s a gorgeous private pool and loads of outdoor space. The indoors is also spacious, with lots of room for the whole family to relax.

There’s a pool table for you to all compete with one another, and even a mini gym for the more athletic ones. And best of all, the villa has an entertainment room downstairs, plus a closed living room upstairs with a huge TV. Take your pick when it comes to movie night – or let the kids watch their film, while you enjoy your own.

Family villas Seminyak: large pool AND a central location!

For a change of pace, how about this 4bed villa right in the heart of buzzing Seminyak? Two minutes walk from the renowned beach club Potato Head, this really is a wow location. There’s a huge range of cafes and shops within strolling distance – and it’s easy to get back home quickly when small legs get tired. And Kudeta is just minutes away – your Sunday go-to for fun children’s activities for younger kids.

Mayaloka 4bed villa is a little different aesthetically to most Bali family villas, designed in a very modern, industrial style. Raw, edgy architecture combines with tropical planting to give this villa a fresh feel.

For children, the large pool is ideal and we’ll also throw in free floaties for extra fun. If you have smaller children, there’s also a free baby cot, depending on availability. For older children, we’ve got a twin room.

Have we convinced you? Take it from us and our enthusiastic children, Bali is a fabulous option for families. Wherever you decide to stay, Bali Comfy Villas is here for you, to arrange day trips (For more on Bali Comfy Trips), activities or child care to make your holiday as wonderful as possible. And believe me, that’s going to be very wonderful.
