1. Old Man’s: The one and only
Old Man’s definitely deserves the top position as it has won our hearts. Located just in front of Batu Bolong Beach, it is a must while in Canggu. What better after an afternoon walk or surf at the beach, than a sunset Bintang at Old Man’s?
And don’t get fooled by its laid back appeal; this place throws some serious live concerts and parties that can last all night long.
2. Deus Ex Machina: The Temple
With the serious reputation of being the first bar to open in Canggu, Deus’ enthusiasts never miss out on a Sunday live here. Tuesdays’ Tacos and Tattoos can get you a free tattoo for every order of nachos. We personally don’t know what we like the most: its hippy, old school bikes, its retro surfboards or its yummy burgers. (More information on Deus here.)
3. Behind the Green Door: One of the coolest cocktail bars in Canggu
Step through the green door and into one of Canggu’s best cocktail bars. Order one of the eight signature cocktails from award winning mixologist Harris Mahendra and accompany it with some Asian nibbles to die for. Local talent and international DJs rotate daily here for some serious partying.
4. Black Sand Brewery: The place to see and be seen every Friday
Forget the good old Bintang and opt for some serious quality crafted beer. The Brewery obviously has its own brews. We highly recommend the crisp German Kölsch. The recent extension of the place due to its ever-growing crowd has added to a more relaxed vibe. Come early every Friday while the place is still chill and party until the early hours!
5. Finns Beach Club: Only for serious fun
Bamboo walls sticking out of nowhere right next to the beach, a DJ playing some funky tunes, people dancing in da pool… The place brings some of the world’s best DJs and is famous for its New Year Eve parties! (More info on beach clubs here.)
6. The Lawn: Gourmet bites and state of art cocktails
Competing closely with La Brisa for the winner of our hearts, the Lawn is exactly what it promises: endless lawn right by Batu Bolong Beach. With an infinity pool and the best cocktails in town, you have to pay a visit to check for yourselves.
7. Sand Bar: The queen of the night
If you are wondering what to do after a live concert at Deus on Sunday, Sand Bar at Echo Beach next door is the answer. We love its laid back style, where you can literally dance until the early hours on the sand.
8. La Brisa: The addition to the ‘La Favela’ family
Well, he did it again! Sand Bar might be the queen of the night but La Brisa, a boho bean bag laid back bar next to the ocean right at Echo Beach, playing definitely the best tunes in Canggu, is the queen of the sunsets. (More info on beach clubs here.)
9. Lacalita: A Latin throwback
If you have a bit of Latin blood in you, do try Lacalita for a taco and a mojito or two. The music gets louder and louder as the night goes on, while the party is just starting to heat up.
10. Pretty Poison: For the young at heart
With a skate ramp and a darker live stage, just off the rice field road, go grab a Bintang and watch the skaters throw some serious tricks.
