Best spas in Canggu and Seminyak, Bali

Who doesn’t love a spa day? No one, is the answer. And if you’re in Bali, you’ve come to the right place, with no end of spas to keep you happy. In this special guide to the best spas in Canggu and Seminyak, we’ve got the solution for you. Whether you want to be pampered in luxury or just ease the tension in your shoulders for pennies. Whether you want to heal your innermost soul or paint your nails. Whether you want some quiet, minimalist alone time or you want to get ready for a big night out with all your friends and a couple of cocktails.

Best for steam, sauna and ice plunge

We adore a thermal circuit! Zipping from sauna to steam room to ice cold plunge pools improves our circulation and metabolism, gives us a detox, and eases muscular tension. Plus, it’s the perfect setting for a bit of a gossip. If this is your bag, Canggu and Seminyak have you covered.

AMO

AMO offers everything you could ask for in a NYC style day spa, but its crowning glory is its sauna area with steam rooms, rock sauna, hammam, jacuzzi, ice plunge pools, ice barrels, Epsom salt baths and swimming pool, all in a beautiful al fresco space so you can hop around from one to the other, pausing at the relaxation area as you please. As you’re here anyway, why not buy a full day pass and stay for the Oxygen facials, body treatments, foot and shoulder massages, IV therapy, hair treatments, and the amazing mani-pedis, with over 1,000 colours to choose from. Amo also has an impressive range of speciality treatments, from anti-ageing to acne treatment to anti-bloating. And don’t forget to drop in to the bar and café afterwards.

Sundaymood

Designed to integrate wellness, recovery, and time for self-reflection, don’t miss Bali’s very first totally private infrared sauna and private ice baths. Book a private infrared sauna booth all to yourself for 45 minutes, breath in the hand rolled Balinese incense, select your favourite chroma therapy and just be still. If you want, add on a private saltwater ice bath too for contrast therapy.  Fluffy robes, natural materials, neutral colours and minimalist design all add to the calm, relaxing environment.

Bodyworks

If you want your spa to be an Instagrammable oasis as well as offer you great service, give Seminyak’s Bodyworks a try. Set in the most beautiful surroundings, Bodyworks is your pampering heaven. Authentic Balinese massages, plus Indonesia’s facial secret, the Javanese mandi lulur scrub using turmeric, sandalwood, cinnamon and rice powder, pretty mani-pedis and a flower bath to finish it all off. And new for 2023, Bodyworks also now offers an infrared sauna and ice baths. If that’s not enough, pop into the café afterwards and treat yourself to a turmeric latte.

The Spa at the Legian Bali

Now this is top tier spa-ing. With a luxurious heat circuit (with sauna, steam and hot and cold plunge pools), this high-end option gives you the chance to sauna either before or after your personal Wellness Concierge leads you through your personalised treatments. The Spa at the Legian takes wellness seriously, with locally inspired ingredients and rituals, plus internationally famous brands. Indulge in a full head to toe four handed massage, or one of the Ila Blessing Rituals – we love Earth, which uses Tibetan singing bowls, a slow deep massage and body polish, and leaves you feeling a great sense of stillness.

Best for unwinding

And breathe. We’ve selflessly tried out all the spas in town to find the most chill of all, the ones you walk into feeling tense, and walk out of feeling a deep sense of inner peace.  Try these spas when you want to get away from everything and enjoy some quiet, quality me-time.

Spa Alila

A contemporary space that draws from ancient healing practices and traditional beauty rituals, Spa Alila in Seminyak is the place to go for calm and escape. Your shoulders drop you as soon as you walk in: the spa is scented with lemongrass and chamomile. This place focuses on bespoke treatments using only fresh local ingredients. Try one of the signature treatments: we love the Royal Ritual, which includes Balinese massage, a royal Balinese lulur (a bathing custom to purify and soften the skin) and an amazing seven-flowers bath – this is said to imbue a person with the vibrational frequency of highly potent concoction to increase your personal aura and infuse it with the natural vitality of flowers. We say it smells great. The Royal Ritual also includes a glass of sparkling wine and a three-course lunch at their Seasalt restaurant. Or try a Sunset in Paradise package, three hours of your choice of treatments, also with a cocktail and dinner at Seasalt.

Therapy

If you want to keep it simple, calm and relaxed, Therapy is the place for you. You’ve got everything here: scrubs, cream baths, reflexology, massage, wraps, mani-pedis, waxing, facials, hair. And it’s all with that little bit of added luxury thanks to Therapy’s own line of spa products using organic, natural ingredients sourced from around the world, with no products ever tested on animals. Try their Ultimate Euphoria signature massage to ease muscle tension, relax and detoxify – it’s worth it!

Best for luxury

You’re on holiday, why not splash out a little on something really special? Royal treatments, real gold facials or just a super luxurious place to chill for a while. We’ve picked out the best.

Gold Dust

Canggu’s king of bling, Gold Dust is an excellent one stop shop for all the pampering you could wish for, from hair to nails to feet – plus full body treatments, of course. Don’t miss their piece de resistance, the 24K Gold Facial, an anti ageing skin rejuvenating treatment with real gold that’s the darling of Instagram. This is the perfect location for a spa party – round up some friends and enjoy a day to pampering, with the 24K Gold Facial, a foot massage and a deep nourishing hair spa plus wine and nibbles.

Prana

Special occasion? Just feel like you need a real treat? For true decadent luxe and glamour, it has to be Prana. One of the biggest spas in Bali, Prana is all about sensuality and the exotic, with rich colours, décor that transports you to the Middle East, and a huge choice of indulgent treatments. If you want a really special experience, book their new Private Suite and try the 240 mins Jewels of the Nile package which includes Egyptian Foot Cleansing, Gold Infused Royal Massage, Precious Stone Alignment, Genuine Pearl Facial, Crown Therapy and Cleopatra Milk Bath. Don’t miss their speciality Ayurvedic treatments. The Shirodhara, or head flow, is the bee’s knees for tackling headaches and insomnia.

Body Temple Spa

If you’re after a bit of luxury – whether that takes the form of beauty treatments, relaxation or serious massage – try Body Temple Spa in Finns Beach Club, Canggu. Their tagline ‘What does my body need today?’ sums up the all-round ethos. On offer are a soothing signature massage, what they claim to be ‘Bali’s best sports massage’, traditional Royal Lulur body treatments, THALGO facials, Shellac mani-pedis, and much much more. Lie back and relax, while the kids enjoy the pool.

Best for nurturing your wellbeing

Maybe you don’t just want to nurture your body, maybe you want to nurture your soul too. Bali has a great selection of spas that take a holistic approach to your wellbeing, often incorporating ancient traditions and beautiful garden spaces for you to unwind in.

COMO Shambalah Retreat

The COMO Shambalah Retreat located at COMO Uma Canggu is not just a spa, it’s more of a luxury wellness destination, with everything you can think of to soothe your body, mind and soul. This healing and wellbeing centre has a café, a gym, beautiful grounds and yoga pavilions as well as its amazing spa. Its speciality lies in holistic treatments and hands on healing, drawing from ancient Eastern wisdom through a lens of modern science. Try the COMO Shambala Bath to first soften and exfoliate the skin, and follow it up with their signature massage, or an oxygenating facial using their own blends of essential oils. Better still, book in for a consultation to create your very own wellness programme.

Desa Seni

If you want a true Balinese experience, serene, holistic and spiritual, you need to try Desa Seni. It’s not just a spa, it’s a wellness resort set in lush organic gardens, offering rooms and yoga classes as well as its wonderful spa. Stroll through the gardens, stop to admire the traditional style bungalows, the Javanese art and artifacts, to reach the Merapu Svaasthya Spa (it translates as ‘spiritual forces’ and ‘wellness’), which focuses on health and healing through Western and Eastern therapies. Try the signature massage or a banana leaf wrap. Or if you want to take it further, get the Desa Nurture Package which includes a hot stone massage, a break at the salt water pool with an organic tea, an organic lunch, followed by a facial and a cream bath.

TERRA Spa

TERRA Spa is all about mind, body and spirit – and carbon footprint. For a spa experience closely connected to nature, in a beautifully welcoming space, this is a great bet. Terra serves up everything you’d expect: massages, scrubs, beauty treatments – but on top of that it specialises in holistic techniques bringing in acupuncture, reiki healing and intuitive guidance. It also offers a truly personal service: book a consultant and discuss a range of treatments to improve healthy sleep, balance hormones or reduce anxiety.

Best for fun, glam and girl time

Sometimes it’s not about your inner soul, sometimes it’s about kicking back, having fun with your friends, and letting someone take care of you. These fun spas are great for a girls’ day out – lie back, get your toes done, and sip a cocktail.

Tonic Day Spa – Tropical Glam

We love the glamour of California inspired Tonic Day Spa, a tropical, pink flamingo-and-palm-tree-fringed haven with all the treatments you could possibly want, including a pineapple, mint and lemongrass welcome drink. Massages, facials, body scrubs, hair and nails – it’s all here. Try a Balinese style botanical herb massage to work out pain and eliminate stress, or their deep tissue bamboo massage combining warm oiled bamboo with Swedish technique. And while you’re here, why not get a mani-pedi and a pink cocktail to go with it?

AWAY at W Bali

This is not your minimalist, relaxed spa: this is beachfront funk. Open from dawn till dusk, Seminyak’s legendary AWAY Spa is the spiritual home of Bali’s It crowd, whether they’re looking to decompress from partying or to get ready for more. Massages by the beach, hot stone baths, cold jet set vitality pool, oxygen room and a bar for chilling in. As well, of course, as a hair salon, mani-pedi lounge and the usual menu of massages and treatments.

Spring Spa

Kiwi-owned Spring Spa (it has locations in both Canggu and Seminyak, as well as Nusa Lembongan and Uluwatu) is a fun destination spa whether you’re after a quick beauty touch up or a full mind and rejuvenation package.  Architecturally designed interiors, cold coconuts and an extensive treatment menu – not to mention the rumours of celebs – make this a great choice. If you’re suffering from the excesses of the night before, you have to try the brilliant Morning After treatment. It is a signature massage, followed by a hydrating natural eye treatment to get rid of those dark circles and that puffiness, plus a young coconut for hydration – perfection.

Shampoo Lounge

Shampoo Lounge’s motto is ‘we get you ready’ and ain’t that the truth. While some spas are not too keen on group bookings, here they positively welcome it. Bring the girls and get glammed up for your big night out (the Bali Barber is right next door if you want to drop off the men there). It’s not just your hair that will be indulged, your nails will also get the treatment, leaving you in peak condition to go off and paint the town red.

Best for specialist treatments

Maybe you’re not after a generic spa day, maybe you have something specific you need. Bali has a huge choice of all rounder spas that cover all bases, but here are some that have a particular specialisation that might just be right up your street.

FaceDay

FaceDay are the experts when it comes to functional facials. With a range of facials to suit your needs. Pick from Lighting Lift for toning, Super Chill to de-puff, Power Tone, their signature facial to boost muscle tone and wake up your face, or Free Flow, a massage only facial – you will definitely leave feeling refreshed. FaceDay’s functional facials combine face yoga with high tech and lymphatic drainage techniques, first mapping your face with their high tech scanner to understand your skin’s needs. You might find yourself experiencing massage, LED lights, electric and radio frequencies, facial stretches and suction cups to de-puff. There’s also a large range of products so you can continue the magic at home.

Chill Reflexology

When you’re looking for a slice of foot bliss to relieve tension and anxiety throughout your body, Chill Reflexology is the place to go. Let the therapists tackle your aching feet, and work on your pressure points across your body, while you kick back with your own music – all at a very reasonable price.  Or go for a full body pressure point massage for ultimate chill. Top tip: most of the reflexology therapists here are men, so if you prefer a woman, mention this when you book.

Espace

Espace brings together meditation and aromatherapy to put a new twist on the most deliciously scented spa services. Aromatherapy massages are a real highlight here, with the spa’s signature essential oils also put to work in body scrubs. Try the body masks too – this starts with a massage before a choice of wraps and ends with an aromatic flower bath. If you’re short on time and high on tension, don’t miss the quick tension relief of the 30-minute chair massage to ease your neck, shoulders and upper back.

Best for vegan and cruelty free services

Concerned about animal testing? While lots of our spas have a wide choice of vegan and cruelty free products and services, here are two spas that focus on offering everything as cruelty free. Great nails, great hair, great conscience.

Glo Day

Glo Day is a great all rounder, offering massages (try the Balinese or the ancient warm bamboo massage), facials, hair styling, cuts and colouring, waxing, beauty treatments, make up and nails. And all of the products they use are vegan and cruelty free. With two branches in Canggu as well as other locations in Sanur and Nusa Lembongan, this is a very popular choice. Glo Day is also a great choice for brides: their Bridal Package offers not only hair styling and make up for the bride, but also for the whole wedding party – bridesmaids, mothers of the bride and groom, flower girls, even the guests! Extras like trial runs, or pre-wedding photo shoots are also available.

Maria Curau

If avoiding animal cruelty is high on your agenda, just above great nails, give Marie Curau a try. This is a vegan, cruelty-free mani-pedi bar with a focus on all natural and non-toxic products. Nestled in the rice fields in Pererenan, it’s also a great place to chill. Sip on your kombucha while professional staff treat you to a reflexology massage, a great mani-pedi and some incredible freehand nail art.

Best for beauty

If you’re interested in perfecting your looks, pay a visit to one of our recommended beauty spas – for facials, nails, hair and hair removal, we have some great options.

Estetica Belle

Estetica Belle uses the tagline ‘support your local beauty gang!’ for a reason: in a field dominated by Australian owned concepts, the salon is locally owned and locally staffed, using cutting edge beauty care technology.  Estetica Belle offers the full range of beauty treatments including hair, nails, lashes, brows, permanent make up and skin treatments (including Dermalogica and Doctor Babor treatments). There are also some great packages, either just for you or to share with your partner, friends or even as a mother/daughter outing.

House of Orange

For some of the best nailcare in Canggu, you need to go to House of Orange. House of Orange will shape your nails, give you cuticle care, a hand massage, polish, gel polish (all vegan), some amazing nail art, plus you can try a strengthening treatment to make it all last longer.  And all in a relaxing, creative, inspiring environment.

The Cottage Beauty House

Whatever you need, beauty wise, The Cottage Beauty House has it: mani-pedis, lash tints, lifts and extensions, waxing and spray tans – and for your face, AHA peels, collagen treatments, cleansing or microdermabrasion – take your pick! Whatever your needs, you’re going to leave here feeling and looking great.

Bronz Spa

Maybe you feel in need of a spray tan to kick start your beach holiday – and this place is the best. But bronzing you perfectly is not all they have to offer. There’s mani-pedis, eyebrow shaping, body scrubs, microdermabrasion and even some quasi medi-spa options (a rarity here in Bali!) with anti ageing cosmeceutical facials using high frequency or galvanic infusions available. At the time of writing, Bronz Spa was closed temporarily as they are in the process of relocating, but keep an eye on them popping up soon in their fancy new premises!

Best for affordable luxury

Maybe you spent all your cash on some of the great restaurants we recommended – I’m not even going to apologise for that, it was worth it, right? If you’re looking for a little luxury and an effective massage at a reasonable price, we’ve got some great options for you. They might not be the fanciest, but you’ll get fantastic treatment in an indulgent and relaxing environment nonetheless.

Sundari Day Spa

This Seminyak spa is our number one choice for luxury without the price tag. It feels luxe: sleek, modern design using local natural building materials create a clean, soothing feel and the ideal setting for its relaxing, blissful treatments. Sundari looks to blend traditional and modern healing techniques with natural products, all wrapped up in customised treatments designed according to your needs.  And they make all their essential oils in house! Try their top selling Organic Aloe Vera Facial using their own products based on locally grown organic aloe vera, or their signature Balinese massage. And with the money you’ve saved, treat yourself to a few products to take home with you.

Chillax

An open secret among Canggu expats, but off the beaten track for many tourists, Chillax is not what it seems. If you didn’t know, you might walk straight past this unassuming nail salon, not realising that once you’re through those doors, it opens up into a huge spa, fantastic for effective massages at a great price. Their deep tissue massage really hits the spot –  topped off with a gentle foot massage or a relaxed mani-pedi.

Jari Menari

Here at BCV, we love this place. A Seminyak institution, Jari Menari offers real expertise in massage: its staff (who are all male) are rigorously trained in anatomy and physiology – these guys know what they’re doing. They adjust their techniques according to what you need, centring around long strokes and consistent rhythmic pressure – and it really works. Afterwards, go and sit in their beautiful gardens: they offer some destressing activities too, such as colouring.

Eco Spa

Set inside Canggu’s Ecosfera budget hotel, this gorgeous spa is amazing value for money and eco-friendly to boot. They offer a range of massages including their Balinese massage and hot stone massage, but also include some specialist treatments like a slimming package, to help reduce cellulite, detox, and support weight loss. They also offer a great moisturising facial.
