The Ultimate Guide To Bali Night Life

Do you like to party? I said do you like to party? Well, you’re in luck. Bali’s selection of after hours bars, night clubs, dance clubs and beach clubs is second to none. So, pull on your dancing shoes because we’re going to show how to keep the party going all the way through to the early hours. You’re going to have some fun whatever your vibe and whichever part of the island you find yourself on.

Seminyak – party, bar and dance club central

Let’s start our night in Seminyak because, well why not? Buzzing and cool, there are plenty of places to keep all night owls very happy here. Word to the wise: do your prep and hit up Shampoo Lounge before your night out. They love a group booking, and they will get your hair and nails in perfect form. And for the men, there’s the Bali Barber right next door. Now we’ve got you looking like a million dollars, where are we going to take you?

Beach Club Heaven

If you’re looking at ticketed live events, check out Potato Head, the Queen of the Beach Club scene. DJs play till 2 am on ordinary Fridays and Saturdays but keep an eye out for special events, when the party typically continues till 4am. Make sure you book your tickets well in advance! We’d recommend you get here a bit earlier than your event starts and enjoy some of their fabulous cocktails on the rooftop terrace before it all kicks off.

From dinner to dance club

You don’t need special events to enjoy Seminyak’s night life though – every night’s a party night somewhere! Try hitting up La Favela, a quirky bar and restaurant by day, and a dance club by night. This atmospheric themed bar takes you to the jungles of Indonesia, the favelas of Rio and the underground clubs of New York and London, with some street art thrown in on top.

It’s host to some of the biggest late night parties in Bali, with DJs every night, salsa on Tuesdays, and the craziest parties at the weekend. This is home to the beautiful people so you’re going to fit right in! Oh, and if you’re hosting a private event, check out their new private function area, Attika. Just sit back while your private butler brings you cocktails and tapas.

Eat Street

Or you could try Da Maria, the Italian pizza place (and their pizzas are really pretty good) that becomes a night club on Mondays, Wednesdays and Sundays at 10pm. All nights are fun here, but it’s Sunday nights and the event they call 528HZ when this place really shines.

Disco, house, funk and techno tracks will keep you dancing. But just in case, insider tip: the Sicilian margaritas will really help too. If that’s not your scene, maybe Inno Wednesday is for you, with hip hop, Afrobeats and RnB.

Or maybe Mexico is where your heart is at? You cannot miss Motel Mexicola! This restaurant-slash-night club is a retro delight of bright colours and 1960s styling. This is where to go when your vibe is dancing on tables with tequila shots. We won’t tell anyone. Open till late every evening, and look out for special events too: if you time your holiday right to catch it, their Cinco de Mayo is the best party in town.

Go glam, go clubbing

For a totally different feel, check out Mirror Lounge and Club on Seminyak’s main Jalan Petitenget Street. This nightclub is styled like a gothic church gone bad, with mirrored walls and towering ceilings, mosaic glass, dangling chandeliers and cherubs and crazy futuristic laser lights.

The music is electronic and trance. This is an upmarket night club and it has a dress code – basically it’s  casual chic for guys, and ‘dress to impress’ for women. Take a look at their events roster – while the DJs here are always great, there are regular events and guest DJs to make your night even more special.

Or how about Shi Shi? A Japanese izakaya lounge downstairs, and a night club upstairs. Actually, that’s two night clubs upstairs. The first floor is all about the techno, and the whole experience is amplified by the amazing LED ceiling with its intense and immersive light show. Then there’s the rooftop, home to R&B and hip hop grooves. Book the VIP service for a really special experience with your own private sofa area and bottle service.

If you want a really late one, there’s always Red Ruby. Open from 11pm till 6am, Red Ruby’s calendar changes weekly, with exciting DJs and events. The decor merges the glam of the NYC disco scene of the 70s with the underground clubs of Berlin, Ibiza, Barcelona and Amsterdam. The music, however, is totally current. If you want to start earlier than 11, Red Ruby also has a terrace that’s open from 5pm for nibbles and cocktails, often with live bands playing.

It’s a drag

The LGBTQ+ scene is thriving here too – there’s the well-known if tiny Bali Joe, a lively gay bar with drag queens performing across several different stages throughout the night, and with events such as celebrity lookalike contests. Or there’s Mixwell, which has one of the best drag shows in Bali. Expect performances to be fun and full of audience interaction.

Late night speakeasy scene

Perhaps you’re looking for a late night bar rather than dancing, perhaps somewhere to grab a drink after you’ve hit the clubs. Baker Street Social stays open till 3am on Fridays and Saturdays, and till 2 am on all the other days (except Sunday when it’s closed).

This is a cool little speakeasy bar, tucked away out of sight on the second floor on Jalan Petitenget – access via a little door at Tiffin Indian Restaurant. They specialise in exciting and innovative craft cocktails  – they’ll even make you up a unique drink to order.

Live bands around the clock

If live music is more your thing, we’ve got two very different suggestions for you. On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday nights, we have Ryoshi House of Jazz. It’s mainly a restaurant, serving Japanese dishes (and great sushi). But from around 9pm to around 11pm, there’s live jazz, usually from Indonesia or elsewhere in Asia.

Or try The Orchard, a bar and restaurant that springs into life at around 8.30pm when the live music kicks off. The style changes every night, so check the schedule out ahead of time, but expect rock, reggae or folk.

Canggu – cool, hip and fun through till dawn

If you’re based in Canggu – or just want to have a big night out here – we’ve got a whole host of suggestions for you. Lively yet laid back, the night life is second to none and you can’t fail to have a good night out here.

Party by the beach

Top of my list – and top of lots of people’s lists – has to be Old Man’s, a much loved Canggu institute. It’s perfectly located right by Batu Bolong Beach, and everyone knows it as the perfect place to chill with a sunset Bintang after a day’s surfing.

But what you might not know is that it also powers on well into the night. Yes, open every day till 1am, Old Man’s is a great destination for late night parties and even live concerts. Check out Dirty Ol’ Wednesdays, and also keep an eye on which DJ is playing on a Saturday night.

Microbrews till late

Then there’s hip newcomer, Black Sand Brewery. If your tastes in beer extend beyond the old Bintang, give this brewery a spin for its great range of craft beers, brewed on site. The brewery has an extensive beer garden to house its ever-growing crowd but however popular, it manages to retain a chill vibe. Fridays are the best night – get there early, grab a bite to eat, and stay until the early hours.

It’s only rock and roll but I like it

Another stalwart of the Canggu night life scene is hard rocking Deus Cafe. They might call it a café but it’s so much more than that. It’s a gallery space, a surf shop, a storage space for old skool bikes. It’s also the Temple Of Enthusiasm bar and stage, host to legendary live music sessions on Sundays, and also home to Tuesdays Tacos and Tattoos – a little Mexican, a little ink.

places to party

And to continue on the rock theme, never forget Gimme Shelter, a fantastic live music venue open every day till the early hours. That’s not all either: the site also features a skate park plus Cajun Kitchen where you can grab a bite to eat before it all kicks off.  If you’re a budding musician yourself, don’t miss open mike Mondays.

places to party

There’s also Pretty Poison, which describes itself as a backyard inspired arts warehouse with a serious skate ramp and a live stage. While it’s only open till 9pm on regular nights, look out for special events where this cool as all hell venue gets a late pass and stays open till the early hours.

places to party

Beach club mania

If you’re more of a DJ and dance music type of a person, and you love a bit of a beach club vibe, we’ve got plenty more options for you. First of all, Finns Beach Club. This place is huge, and a little bit crazy.  It has everything – four pools, and goodness knows how many restaurants, plus nine bars and a whole host of resident DJs and live vocalists.

Arrive for sunset cocktails and stay as the live acts kick off the party.  And entrance is free! If you happen to be in Bali for NYE, this should definitely be an option you look into, Finn’s NYE parties are legendary round these parts.

Continuing on the beach club theme, we’ve also got Atlas, officially the biggest beach club in the world, as well as the longest beach bar in Asia. It’s not just got restaurants, bars and a giant swimming pool. It’s got department stores and even an enormous artificial waterfall.

Get here for sunset cocktails and stay for the mind blowing entertainment. This centres on Atlas Nightclub – the biggest night club in Bali – right next to the beach club boasting top international DJs. Give their Resurgence night a go on Thursdays. It’s mostly international acts spinning melodic techno. But the beach club itself is also hot on entertainment – we’ve got top notch DJs here too as well as traditional kecak fire performances, Balinese dancers, magicians, you name it.

If you prefer a more laidback, smaller scale beach club that still really knows how to party, you have to try The Lawn. It does what it says on the tin, with a huge expanse of lawn right by Batu Bolong beach. There’s an infinity pool and some superb cocktails. Try Friday nights for disco, house, RnB and hip hop tunes and better still, half price on selected drinks from 9pm to 1am. Check their website for details of live events, DJs and live music.

If it’s sand you want to feel between your toes rather than grass, give Sand Bar a go. Open all day from breakfast onwards, it’s the night time when this place truly comes alive, with the party raging till 4 or 5 am. Wednesdays are our hot tip as the best night to come here, though this place is buzzing all the time. Handily located next to Deus at Echo Beach, this laid back late night bar will have your dancing till you drop.

places to party

Or try La Brisa, a boho bean bag laid back bar next to the ocean at Echo Beach, playing some of the best tunes in Canggu. It’s a beach club, it’s a restaurant, it’s an events venue, it’s everything you might want it to be, with house & techno under palm covered dance floors. We recommend trying their Basement Love x PNNY events if one is on. It’s guaranteed to feature some of the more renowned house and techno acts.

Dance clubs – but with an arty, underground twist

While most people think Canggu is all relaxed beachy surfy vibes, don’t be fooled, there is another side, and it’s a little darker. If night clubs are more your bag than beach clubs, here’s our suggestions:

Vault is an edgy, super cool, underground warehouse style club where the focus is truly on the music. Standing in stark contrast to the beachy, palm tree lined clubs that dominate the area, this one is for the misfits, the creatives, the music lovers. Check the schedule first as the music changes every night, from RnB and afrobeats to techno and hip hop.

You should also give Morabito Art Villa in Berawa a go. This has a regular Friday evening party with big name, mainly underground DJs. The hotel/venue/beach club/restaurant is geared towards creatives and unconventionals and Friday nights are no exception – not to be missed!

Venturing off the beaten track – party time in Uluwatu

Here’s a slightly left field suggestion. Why not head over to the lesser known south part of the island for your night out for a change?

New places are springing up here all the time and some of them are really pretty special. Clifftop views make for a dramatic and frankly beautiful setting that you’re not going to forget in a hurry (unless you have too many of those margaritas).

Savaya is the darling of Instagram and you just can’t miss it. Set high up in the cliffs at Uluwatu with incredible views, Savaya is vying for Bali’s party crown with some of the biggest names booked to play here.

There’s a great line up for every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. It’s luxe, it’s celeb-friendly, its views are stunning – but it comes at a price. It’s worth it though, for a really special night out with fabulous cocktails, superstar DJs and all round splendid vibes.

Another option in Uluwatu – and not so hard on the pocket – is Single Fin. Also breathtakingly located on a cliff top looking over at crashing waves, Single Fin is a restaurant and bar by day and a club by night.

Think sharing pizza, jugs of cocktails and fabulous live bands and DJs. We recommend Sunday nights for the much loved Sunday Sessions with regular international DJs and live acts. Wednesday nights are also cool, with a full music schedule lined up.

Hot tips for recovering from your party life

If you’ve followed our advice, you’ve had some amazing nights out and you’re probably feeling a little sore around the head. We’re sorry!

Let us make it up to you with some been there, done that advice: book into Spring Spa for the day after (there’s branches in both Canggu and Seminyak). This Kiwi owned spa is a real tonic and it’s got just what you need – the brilliant Morning After treatment. It is a signature massage, followed by a hydrating natural eye treatment to get rid of those dark circles and that puffiness, plus a young coconut for hydration – perfection.  Now you’re ready to start the night life all over again.
