Hire a driver when you want to explore; stay put when the oceanfront villa already has the day covered.

Beaches & Ocean Views

The Cove’s beachfront – Walk directly from the estate to the black-sand shoreline, with access to the walk-through grotto and coastal rock formations. Explore at low tide and check local sea conditions before entering the water.

Balian Beach – Around six minutes by car, this west-facing black-sand beach is known for its river-mouth surf break, open ocean views and sunsets. The waves are generally better suited to confident intermediate and advanced surfers.

Soka Beach – A nearby black-sand beach with coconut plantations, rock formations and views towards the Indian Ocean. Strong waves mean it is better for coastal walks and sunset viewing than casual swimming.

Mejan Beach – A long and less-developed stretch of black sand near Balian, suited to walks, photography and watching local fishermen. Visit at low tide and follow local advice regarding currents.

Restaurants & Cafés

Pondok Pitaya Beachfront Restaurant – A casual Balian Beach venue serving Indonesian dishes, salads, pasta, wraps, burgers and plant-based choices from breakfast through dinner. It faces the surf break and works well for mixed-age groups.

Yama Balian – A dining spot near Balian Beach with views towards the Balian River and a menu centred on locally sourced ingredients.

Deki’s Warung – A straightforward choice for Indonesian food in Balian, with views of the surfers and an easy setting for lunch after the beach.

Casa Balian Café – Serves a mix of Indonesian and Western food, including pizzas and desserts, making it a practical option for groups with different preferences.

Balian Night Market – Head to the village for satay, nasi goreng and local snacks served by small vendors. It is a casual way to try everyday Balinese food rather than a formal dinner.

Beach Clubs & Sunset Spots

The Cove’s sunset cabana – Stay at the villa for sunset drinks with views across the infinity pool, beach and grotto. Drinks and service should be arranged with the villa team in advance.

Pondok Pitaya Beachfront Restaurant – Order a drink at the beachfront bar and watch the sun drop behind Balian’s surf break. It offers the closest experience to a laid-back beach club in the area.

Balian Beach – Pick a beachfront or clifftop table and watch the evening surf. The west-facing coastline gives this part of Tabanan a clear sunset view.

Soka Beach – Visit for sunset from the black-sand shore or the rocky area near Luhur Serijong Temple. Swimming is not recommended when conditions are rough.

Good to know – Bonian and Balian do not have the large-scale beach clubs found in Canggu or Seminyak. Sunset here is more about beach bars, local restaurants and quiet coastal viewpoints.

Wellness & Fitness

Balian Spirit Yoga – Join a morning Vinyasa class or afternoon Hatha Flow with meditation at an open-air shala near Balian Beach. Private tuition is available on request; contact the studio to confirm the current schedule.

In-villa massage – Massage beds are available at The Cove, and therapists can be arranged at an additional cost. Book ahead when organising treatments for a wedding group.

The Cove’s grass tennis court – Play tennis, badminton or volleyball on the regulation-size grass court within the villa grounds.

Balian surfing – Experienced surfers can head to the Balian River mouth for left- and right-breaking waves. Beginners should book a local instructor and choose conditions suited to their ability.

Yuna Wellness at Amarta Beach Retreat – A farther-afield option with massages, a gym, sauna, cold plunge and Jacuzzi facilities. Confirm day-guest access and reservations directly before visiting.

Family & Group Activities

Grotto and low-tide beach walk – Explore the walk-through grotto, rock formations and tidal areas in front of the villa. Check tide times and supervise children closely around the water.

Garden games at the villa – Use the grass tennis court for tennis, badminton or volleyball, then cool off in the infinity pool.

Surf lesson at Balian Beach – Arrange a session with a local instructor based on the group’s experience and the day’s conditions. The main break is generally more appropriate for capable surfers.

Rice-field and village drive – Book a driver to explore Selemadeg’s rice paddies, local markets and rural villages without committing to a full-day journey across Bali.

Soka Beach visit – Combine a black-sand beach walk with sunset viewing and photographs of the coastal rock formations. Keep swimming plans flexible because the waves and currents can be strong.

Movie night at The Cove – Use the villa’s projector for an easy group evening after a wedding celebration or day on the coast.

Getting around:

We can provide a Hiace mini bus with driver for USD 89 = IDR 1,500,000 for 8 hours. Alternatively, our villa team can assist with motorbike rentals. Prices range from approximately USD 5.5 = IDR 80,000 for a standard Vario to USD 18 = IDR 250,000 for a premium NMAX.

Private drivers, airport transfers, day trips, and additional transport arrangements can also be organised by the villa team upon request.
