Top 10+1 romantic restaurants in Canggu & Seminyak

1. Breeze at the Samaya Seminyak: Dine under the stars

Surprise your loved one with a candlelit dinner by the beach under the stars. True to its name, let Breeze’s evening breeze and a glass of chilled wine sweep you away. Listen to the sound of the waves while you taste your Papua crabs, prawns, octopus and lobster dish – one of the restaurant’s specialities. The restaurant offers traditional Balinese plates with a Western twist, and the menu is dictated by local seasonal produce.

2. Zibiru: A farm to table romantic Italian restaurant

Book a table at this secluded rooftop terrace and taste some of the finest handmade Italian pasta. Everything is fresh here, fish and meat is ordered daily, bread and pasta are handmade, and the vegetables come from the restaurant’s organic farm in central Bali. Ask Chef Luigi for the day’s recommendations and you will be astonished by what he suggests. The plates here are not your ordinary-Italian basics. And for the jazz and opera enthusiasts, there is live music five nights a week.

3. Bambu: For a true floating dining experience

Do you want to dine on a floating platform surrounded by crystal clear waters? If the answer is yes, do book a table in advance at the floating platform of Bambu Restaurant. As well as the unique dining experience, you will be fascinated by the authentic Indonesian flavours with a fresh twist this restaurant has to offer. Try the chicken and prawn sate with spicy sambal, and for dessert do order the Dadar Gulung – green pandan crepes wrapped around coconut and palm sugar, served with ice cream.

4. Jemme: Fine jewellery and fine dining

True to its name, Jemme Restaurant is a real gem within Seminyak’s culinary scene that’s hard to miss. Crystal chandeliers, classic wallpapers, a view of rice fields on the one side, a fine jewellery store on the other side and some classical piano music playing in the background: this is what we call a classic dining experience. Try the garlic and herb-baked Portobello mushroom for appetizer and babi gulingor spit-roast pork for main. This place also offers some interesting mocktails including the Blueberry Swoon and the Mint Wake Up fresh mixed juice as well as some classic cocktails such as Bellini and Kir Royale.

5. Casa Tua: The queen of warungs

A Java style warung with a very friendly owner, Casa Tua is your gateway to Indonesian cuisine. Select a table in the garden and watch the rabbits casually passing by to say hello. Try the sate lilit, pepes tuna and gado gado. But beware: don’t get carried away and follow the rabbit down the rabbit hole.

6. Pondok Nyoman Bagus: An off-the-beaten path romantic dining experience

It’s a well-kept secret as it is super hard to find this restaurant online, but if you go to Pondok Nyoman Bagus, right by Pererenan Beach in Canggu, you are in for a pleasant surprise. You can easily spend the whole day here away from the crowds in Canggu. Suntan by the cool pool overlooking the ocean and get ready for the most breathtaking sunset view. Pick the table with the best sea view and enjoy a romantic dinner for two. The portions are very generous. There is a selection of Indonesian and Western foods including pizzas and burgers but also some yummy local fish plates. Do not expect fine dining here but rather some affordable tasty dishes that come at a good price and with great scenery.

7. Tugu Aphrodisiac Picnic In Bed: Do we need to say more?

If you really want to woo your partner and don’t mind being generous about it, then head off to Wantilan Agung, Tugu Restaurant, just off Batu Bolong beach, and book this very special dinner for two. You will be literally eating by yourselves at the beach, sitting on an 18th century antique bed. Enjoy a fine four course meal, accompanied by the sound of music, with candles scattered all over the sand. End your dinner with a heightened sensory experience as you enjoy your to-die-for desserts, blindfolded.

8. Sardine: For the lovers who also love their fish

An interesting trendy décor with Balinese touches, Sardine offers exquisite fish plates with a tempting view of the rice fields. Select a table overlooking the paddies, order some chilled wine and take your other half for a romantic stroll. Try the yellow tuna sashimi and the manis clams steamed in Bintang sauce, chorizo, chili & garlic and for main, opt for a black garlic roasted sea bass. The mango coconut panna cotta and the chocolate mousse are the only way to end your dinner here.

9. In the Raw Beach Garden: For the health conscious lovers

This new addition to Canggu’s culinary scene just knows how to do things right. You want a romantic table for two in the garden? You’ve got it. Some healthy cold pressed juices? You’ve got it. A hearty burger because you’re not so into healthy food after all? You’ve got it. Do try the Black Beauty juice, the jack fruit curry even if you are not vegan or go carnivore with the Balinese crispy duck and the Big BG Australian beef burger.

10. Seasalt: Sit by the beach and breathe in the salty air

Book a twilight dinner for two just steps away from the beach. Enjoy your cold wine as the waves break by your feet and gaze at the sky as it dresses in its sunset colours. The Western Balinese fusion cuisine with some Japanese touches will definitely not disappoint you. We love the fried silken tofu and avocado sushi roll and if your pocket can afford it, do try the grilled sand lobster. (The Twilight Dinner has a set menu but you can always opt for extras.)

+1. Milu by Nook: A feast for the senses

The bohemian décor, the rice field view and the friendly staff all team up to make Milu one of our favourite picks for Canggu. Following its recent expansion, you can choose one of the more secluded tables at the back overlooking the paddies. The coconut daiquiri will transport you to cocktail paradise, while the nasi campur is not to be missed. As simple as it sounds, this plate is just delicious. This place has a lot of vegetarian and vegan options, with the teriyaki tofu being our top pick.
